Karon is a well-developed beach in Phuket that is considered an ideal place for those looking for peace and quiet but with a little bit of excitement. Karon Beach is one hour away from the airport, 15 minutes’ drive from Patong and 10 minutes’ drive from Chalong Jetty. Night life is different from Phuket because Karon is more like a family beach where you can relax and enjoy the sunlight and waters.

The very long beach is lined with several first-rate hotels but there are many options that will suit the budget from the 200 baht-dorm rooms to small guesthouses. Similarly, there are plenty of options when you want to dine out. Resorts have very nice restaurants that serve fresh seafood and steakhouses that will make you feel like you have never left home. However, if it is cheap local food you are looking for; try the back roads where the locals eat. The fishes are fresh from the sea and you can still see the fishermen from the beach.

An Irish Pub is considered to be one of a kind in Karon because most of the nightlife is centered on the bars off Patak Road. Since Karon is more of a family destination, the Irish pub serves international bottled beers but it lacks the ear-splitting music from high end sound systems. However, get ready for plenty of sports on the big screens and occasional live music.

Karon is a nice place to spend a vacation because it can be used as a base to explore Phuket. Compared to Patong, Karon is more developed with luxurious hotels and local guesthouses for backpackers. There are cars and bikes you can rent to explore the adjoining beaches of Kata, Naiham and Rawai. However, if you want to relax, the Karon beach is just 10 minutes away by foot.

Generally, the place is not too crowded although there is New Development of Condos in Karon for travelers and tourists as well as singles and couples who want to have a second home near the beach than is more than 3 kilometers from end to end.
